2010 Ride Safely Bike Light Program

Published on 4/1/2010
As another way to make the Pitt County area an even safer place to ride bicycles, EC Velo leadership is working with other organizations and actively advocating for better streets and driving/riding behaviors of both motorists and bike riders.

This summer, we partnered with several law enforcement groups (Greenville and area town police departments, the State Highway Patrol, Pitt Co.‘s Sheriff’s office, ECU Campus police, and others). In order to promote more visible bicycle riding at night we designed and purchased over 1,000 flashing LED bicycle clip lights.  We attached a “Be Seen, Be Safe” bike riding rules card to each light and distributed them to anyone seen riding an unlit bicycle in the dark.

The goodwill generated by this effort was immense and the police officers were very happy to work with us to promote safer night time bike riding in our communities. This safety project would not have been possible without the support and contributions of EC Velo’s sponsors and their support is greatly appreciated.
